Welcome to my higher education blog series!
Welcome blog readers to my very first higher education blog posting! I started this blog series to help answer student's most common and stressful questions about the college application process. I will post a blog twice a month on my website to give some insight on the most frustrating parts of selecting and applying to colleges.

Blog #1: Selecting a College
Selecting a college can be a very exciting time for students. Your first glimpse of independence, the thought of living on campus, and making new friends. However, it can also be an incredibly stressful and overwhelming experience. This is a time when students start to ask questions, such as when should I apply to college? Should I apply to a college close to home? Do I want to live on campus? Should I apply to an out-of-state university? What are my first steps in selecting a college? How do I apply? Can I get financial aid? Do I qualify for scholarships? These are all questions which go through students minds when thinking about college.
As an education consultant I have heard all the questions and concerns regarding which institution is the best. There is no one right answer to this question. Keep in mind, every student’s situation is different. If your friend selected the best college fit for them this does not mean that college will be the best fit for you.
So, when is the best time to start looking at colleges? Start thinking about college now! Do not wait until the last minute. This just adds stress to the process, in addition to delays with your application. And do not wait until after you have graduated. For high school students, the best time to start looking is during your first year.
Now, if you are already in your first year of college, whether it is a community college or a four-year institution, you should already be thinking about graduate school, depending on your career path and goals.
Remember, the college application process takes time as there are many moving parts. And it certainly is not something you want to rush through. Start early and take your time!
Would you prefer to attend a large or small college?
