Press ReleaseFit Town 26 October 2021 The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks announces its relationship with The Fit City Initiative/Fit Town! October 19, 2021-Los Angeles, CA-In this season of change, Fit Town is a new innovative program that brings the LA community together! Fit Town has created a new program that will empower kids to become physically, creatively, and artistically fit. Together, in relationship with Champions in Service, Fit Town has developed an innovative way to enhance programming using mobile technology. Kids will start to learn the art of movie making and storytelling through their mobile devices while visiting local parks and recreation areas. Fit Town has partnered with the City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department in working together on a docuseries and innovative youth filmmakers’ program. In doing so, Fit Town is anticipating an increase with their platform in helping kids understand creating movie making through mobile technology. The Fit City Initiative created Fit Town to develop community relationships in all areas of Los Angeles in support of the schools, teachers, police and fire departments, civic leaders, and local businesses. Kids will learn the art of storytelling by making a “minute movie.” The Just A Minute (JAM) allows kids a fun way to tell a story, learning how to successfully take their ideas and create a minute movie. University of Southern California filmmaker and author, Dr. Robert Carpenter, will be coaching the kids and assisting in the development process of the JAM program. The Fit Town JAM will be a part of the “Salute to Families” event presented by Champions in Service, held at the David M. Gonzales Recreation Center in Pacoima on November 13th. Under the guidelines set forth by Fit City Initiative, established in July of 2020[GC1.1], Fit Town, a subsidiary, is working in correlation with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) to promote and expand the Fit Town model for future events.
